Sacred Geometry: How Numbers Can Heal

Sacred Geometry

Have you ever thought of the significance of numbers, shapes and the idea of design as a spiritual concept? As long as man has reached for answers beyond the mortal plane, numbers, superstitions and beliefs pertaining to numbers and mathematical theories have abounded.

There’s something to be said for this; the idea of sacred geometry indeed ascribes symbolic and sacred meanings to certain geometric shapes and certain geometric proportions.

Often associated with the religious belief that a higher power or creator is the geometer of the world, the geometry used in the design and construction of religious structures such as churches, temples, mosques, religious monuments, altars, and tabernacles has often been thought of as spiritually divine or holding particular meaning.

The concept of sacred geometry also applies to spaces such as temenoi, sacred groves, village greens, pagodas and holy wells, and the creation of religious art. Shape can be symbolic, and comfort can be derived from the significance these ideas hold.

Indeed, the golden ratio, or what some call the ‘Fibonacci Sequence’ of numbers, underpins a lot of religious or spiritual iconography and buildings; music has even been composed with these divine numbers as a basis for structure.

But how do we unlock this to be useful in our spiritual lives? Well, simply knowing that the energy and patterns that emanate from all things can be traced back to some kind of structure can be inspiring and can provide great comfort. Understanding that a certain amount of our destiny is down to our own actions, but some are down to fate and the innate structure of the universe can be a stabilising and reassuring message to understand.

The significance of certain numbers in various cultures around the world is important. Some posit that the unlucky number 13 is a bad omen or brings negative energy to a situation is a certainty, whereas others attach significance to numbers like 11, which some attribute to angelic communication.

Finding meaning is something we are all striving for. Numbers and geometry, when you know what to look for, can be healing and can provide you with a similarly ordered way of living. There’s so much to explore and so much significance in the world if you take the time to look.
